Messi Wins 7th Ballon D’Or – Is he the greatest footballer of his generation or hype?

Messi wins 7th Ballon D’or

Lionel Messi is now a 7th time balloon d’or recipient which most feel is well deserved but there are others who feel he doesn’t deserve it. But based on statistics provided by the football governing body Messi proved by slim margins to have performed better than his peers this past year despite a perceived poor start at PSG. See image below.

Messi headed the pole results by 613 points to Lewandowski’s 580.

Fussy Ronaldo of course did not show up for the award ceremony (no surprise there).

The debate from Messi’s critics is that the award should have gone to Lewandoski who more than proved himself last year or someone else other than Messi. Chelsea fans even hoped their man Jorginho would be considered.

Messi in my opinion, and what most objective people believe, is that Messi is the best player in the world and at least of his generation. The ‘why’ I would explain later in this article but first, let’s talk about his colleague or ‘arch nemesis’ as some mockingly portray their rivalry.

Ronaldo is a great player by right and a very hard worker who has earned every milestone and accolades he has received but he is no Messi. Ronaldo has proven to be a world class prolific striker especially in his peak days but he is 36 now and no longer at the top of his game which objectively speaking consists majorly of scoring goals. As a player he is sorely lacking in team skills like assists, tackles and playmaking roles which, in my opinion severely limits his greatness and positions him as ‘not’ a well rounded player. Messi on the other hand, is a player that does not need to score a goal to contribute to a team because he is always all over the pitch in terms of contributions. He creates gameplay by opening up the midfield and slices through defences like butter. He isn’t selfish because he knows when to pass the ball to a teammate if the chance to score isn’t there. When he plays you can tell that he is playing for the love of the game and his teammates and fans. Ronaldo on the other hand is driven, image conscious and he gets frustrated and angry when he doesn’t score or have his way because despite all his achievements he is still trying to prove something perhaps more to himself than to anyone else. He isn’t so much a team player but expects the team to play for him and this is why when it comes to a vote Messi will always be considered by his peers, captains and coaches as a better player than Ronaldo and perhaps more deserving of a 7th Ballon d’or.

My take on the ‘Ms. Ogo Onuochukwu case’

http://lindaikeji.blogspot.com/2012/03/my-story-ogochukwu-onuchukwu-woman.html?m=1

Please refer to the following link above for the gist of the story…… After reading this touching story and the comments made by Linda Ikeji and other commentators alike I had to correct some things I felt were misconstrued by the commentators or of misconceptions they might have. 1. It was obvious she was ‘in love’ with this man when she married him and I put ‘in love’ in parenthesis because hollywood and nollywood have defined love by dwelling on physical things-attraction, wealth, romance, etc. Tv shows like ‘the Bachelor’ are designed to make people think that having strong feelings for someone is enough to want to spend the rest of your life with that person. The truth is anyone you are going to become one with or have sex with in or out of the context of marriage must have the fear of God. Sex spiritually is a merging of the soul( ‘and the two shall become one flesh’) that means you are emotionally and spiritually bound to that person for life. For the woman, it is worse because you see God is not stupid by designing sex for marriage and rightly so. When man sinned part of the woman’s punishment is that no matter how successful she(a woman) will be she will always look to the man(her father, boyfriend, husband) for validation, he will always be master over her.(Gen. 3v16) what this means is that the woman was cursed with the mental and emotional flaw of perpetual insecurities that only a man can invalidate for them(make them feel better). That’s why no matter how loved Ogo’s family made her feel only the ‘love’ of the man she was spiritually and emotionally tied to could be enough. I mean why would he keep her for seven years without a child if there wasn’t something there. 2. She said the family didn’t like her from the start and the husband did little or nothing to change that. That him and they were hostile towards her. It still boil down having the fear of God and neither him or his family did. They may have been christians and by that I mean church goers but they didn’t fear or love God because God is love and we cannot claim to love God if we don’t love our fellow man. It has nothing to do with what tribe they were from and yes some tribes are still very backwards but if that family was a strong God fearing one the story would have been different. 3. Finally, what happened to her own family, I will tell you- they married for money, sold their soul to the devil because I’m sure they must have seen the signs but did not try hard enough to discourage their daughter. Kevin’s family was too rich and powerful for any authority to stop them(I don’t think so). They must have tried to make ogo leave quietly to preserve their pride but to no avail and finally turned a deaf ear till they found out she was dying and still only this man could foot her medical bills abi? Finally, what church did she attend and who were her friends, neighbours, etc. The bible says we should not judge. Only God can judge. We do not know the full story and will probably never will. These are just my thoughts, nothing personal. May her soul rest in peace. Amen Posted with WordPress for BlackBerry.

Bill Gate’s Speech To The National Economic Council And How Dangote’s Daughters Wedding Could Have Influenced It

We all saw that famous picture of the wedding and how one of the richest men in the world looked like the humblest man of all the people sitting at that table. It only tells you of the difference between our mentality as Africans and that of the West.  I can imagine that Bill Gates, who is well-traveled across the continent of Africa, and has spent considerable time in Nigeria trying to help us solve some of our problems like fighting Malaria, Cholera, Poverty, etc, attends a wedding like this and see’s that the solution to a majority of these problems can be solved with half of the money spent in such a lavish celebration or by a couple of the people sitting on that table with him.

Granted, Mr. Dangote has done his fair share of helping Nigeria try to reach its full potential infra-structurally, even though he, Dangote has also benefited greatly as well. That is why when Bill Gates gave his speech at the special session of the National Economic Council, correctly pointed out that our leaders need to invest more in human development, by investing in education, health and creating opportunities for the people and less in physical capital or at least place more priority on the first.

Do we realize that if we cut government salary earnings of top officials, I’m talking from local government chairmen upwards, by 60%, that we will make government jobs very unattractive except to the right people and will be able to generate enough funds to pay off most of our debt if not all or solve one of our major problems like power virtually overnight?

What are we still waiting for? All we need is the right person or persons to lead us, someone who cannot be bought or controlled, someone younger than 50 years old, someone who is educated, thinks differently, fearless, has a plan and yes, someone who is ready to die if they must. Where will we find such a man? Hmmm!, women of Nigeria…you’re up…LET’S GO

African Politicians And Their Need To Cling To Power

What is it that makes African leaders and particularly Nigerian leaders in this context refuse to relinquish power even when its obvious they are medically incapable of running a country, or state or any position of influence, effectively? Today I saw an article from HuffPost online(see below), the American news agency citing an article that Senator McCain, once a former presidential aspirant has been diagnosed with Brain Cancer.

His illness has been in the news for a while although no one knee the cause, but nothing was hidden.

The President of Nigeria, whom I’m ashamed to say is my president lies in the UK on his sick bed or rather sick couch as the pictures being released show. He has been there for months on medical leave receiving treatment that he could have gotten in his home country if his predicament is not as bad as his cohorts say. He is consuming tax payers money to foot his bills and pay for the presidential jet parking. Even with all this, no one in his government can tell us his citizens what he is actually being treated for. To me, this is an outrage. I don’t care whether the constitution covers his actions he and his cohorts should be investigated and impeached, at the least. His party and his government won on the premise of ‘Change’. That is his party slogan and he won largely on his reputation as a former military dictator that abhorred corruption and imbibed discipline even to the criticism of his peers and the international community based on the extents to which he carried his propaganda.

Why is it so hard for these men to stick to their words? And why do the people allow them to get away with it?

THE NIGERIAN ATTITUDE, EVEN IN THE DIASPORA……WHAT A BIG SHAME!!!

    http://www.cbc.ca/video/share/share.html?ID=2402356609

Nigerian embassy in Diaspora closes without notice punishing its customers.

its really sad, what more can i say. when people ask “are you going back home after your masters degree”, and i tell them “i’m not in a hurry or if i see an opportunity here, where i am in the UK or any where else i will take it rather than go back”, sometimes i get these looks like as if nobody especially my kinsmen know what is going on in Nigeria. Some say why don’t you go home and be part of the solution and I say to them I have to become the solution first by solving my own problems and that of my family then i will be unburdened enough to find the time to die for my own people. Sometimes its just frustrating being a Nigerian….

The great Divide: Nigeria’s Rich Man, Poor Man Culture

In Nigeria, those that are rich are very rich and those that are poor are very poor. The gap is so wide. Those at the top see those at the bottom as if they are looking at them from a very tall sky scrapper. they can see movement but they have no clue as to what exactly is going on. sometimes they throw some money from their place at the very top thinking they are really making a difference when all the have to do is take the damn elevator or stairs and go down to meet this people because inherently all these people at the bottom really want is to know that someone cares and money is just the product of that action
